2007 PROJECTS
Professor Ramon Galan
Rodriguez School
PREVIOUS CONDITION
This school is located in the community
of 18 de Abril near Montecristi
and is located about 12 miles outside the
city of Trujillo.
It is a very poor community with a
student population
of 49 with one teacher.
It had been constructed
of wood with an old tin roof
and dirt floor.
There is no electricity.
WORK CREW ACTIVITIES
Volunteers and villagers built a new
two-classroom
20x60 school out of cement blocks.
Villagers built new latrines.
The second classroom will allow the
students from Montecristi to attend this
school.

FUTURE PLANS
The village of about 30 homes and school
do not have
electricity. We are applying for a
Matching Grant
from the Rotary Foundation to provide
electricity to the village and
school. We also
hope to provide 4 computers to the
school.
Antonio Encinas
School
PREVIOUS CONDITION
This school is located in the community
of Whirlpool and has 283 students 28 miles from Trujillo.
The school has 3 classrooms made of
cement block with a tin roof.
These three classrooms had electricity
and cement floors but needed to be rewired..
There were two classrooms
made of bamboo and thatch.
Interact students from Hopkinton, New Hampshire repainted
the three existing classrooms and a local electrician was
hired to rewire the classrooms.
WORK CREW ACTIVITIES
Volunteers and villagers built two new
classrooms to replace the two adobe classrooms.
These classrooms were wired.
The latrines were also repaired.
TOTAL EXPENDITURES
$10,145.65
FUTURE PLANS
Through a Matching Grant, we hope to
provide them with 10 computers.
Escuela de los Tigres
PREVIOUS CONDITION
This school is located in the Community
of the Tigers with a student population of 62 children with
two teachers. It is 18 miles outside of Trujillo and
requires a forty
minute walk into the site.
There is an additional classroom building
elsewhere in the community with one teacher. The schools
are
currently constructed of bamboo and
thatch. There are no latrines in the
entire community. There is no
electricity. It is a village of Chortis Indians.
WORK CREW ACTIVITIES
Initially villagers had to carry building materials into
the site..eventually they filled ravines in the road with
rocks to make it possible to truck the remaining materials
to the village.
Five pieces of rebar were carried in at a time.
Even our fearless leader, Tom Plumb, the white knight, gave
a hand.
Vermont volunteers and villagers built
three new cement block
classrooms with cement floors.
New latrines were also built.
This will allow the other school in the
community
to utilize the third classroom.

FUTURE PLANS
We hope to give them 3 laptop computers
with
the teacher that lives in town to
recharge the
batteries.
Escuela Rosendo Nunez
Bonilla
PREVIOUS CONDITION
This school is located in Cerrito
Trujillo and has 300 students and 14
teachers. The 9-classroom school is made
of cement block and has a leaky asbestos roof.
The roof leaks badly and the wiring has
long since become useless. It
is impossible to teach during heavy
rains.
The school needed to be repainted and rewired. The 8
toilets needed to be replaced.
WORK CREW ACTIVITIES
Villagers replaced the worst
portions of the roof.
Texas volunteers with the help of a
Honduran electrician rewired the entire school.
Volunteers also repainted the entire
school.
The toilets were replaced (challenging
our
volunteer plumber).

$6,636.23
FUTURE PLANS
The library was wired for computers. We
hope
to give the school 15 computers.
Colon School
PREVIOUS CONDITION
The kindergarten had major sections of
roofing missing.
WORK CREW ACTIVITIES
We provided 10 sheets of roofing for the
school.
TOTAL EXPENDITURES
$153.48
SUPPORT COSTS
Plaques, Trujillo Club Rotary Flags,
vans, gas, cellphones,
celcards and equipment are needed to make
a work
crew successful.
